In case you missed it among the other big Brian Michael Bendis-centric news of the day, Variety reported early Friday morning that Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter who adapted all of the Twilight movies for film, is developing a TV series version of Alias for ABC — titled “AKA Jessica Jones” — with an aim towards getting in on the schedule for fall 2011.

ABC, ABC Studios and Marvel all declined comment on the story, but Variety noted that things are close enough to a deal that it’ll likely beat the Guillermo Del Toro/David Eick-helmed Hulk series, details of which surfaced last month, as the first “official” Marvel Television project for ABC. Alias was one of the list of possible ABC adaptations that was reported back in October. (Marvel and ABC, of course, are both owned by Disney.)

Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Michael Gaydos, Alias debuted in 2001, and kicked off Marvel’s mature readers line, MAX. The name change is due to, duh, the fact that there was a pretty popular show on ABC called Alias rather recently. The series starred former superhero Jessica Jones, now married to Luke Cage and a proud parent in the pages of New Avengers.
